To me, abortion is a simple issue that should be resolved between the pregnant woman and her doctor. It should not be a legitimate issue in which other parties offer opinions or make decisions. The argument that is normally put up is "Someone should speak for the fetus". Well, the fetus, as a specific future personality, really isn't important, it being a result of chance. We are a direct product of our genes transmitted down through hundreds of generations. When one considers the wars, diseases, personal decisions, etc made down through the ages in which our ancestors were involved, the probability of a specific individual being born is vanishingly small. For example, all the bombs which killed individuals during WW2 were dropped without the intention of killing or saving any specific individual. The bombardier did not know anyone on the ground, his intention was to kill as many people as possible. The same thing can be said about the plagues of many diseases and so on. Billions of individuals were born, but no specific individual was planned from the beginning. If one claims that a specific individual was planned by God, then one has the very awkward question of "Why did He plan that certain innocent children be born severely handicapped, physically or mentally"? Surely, we are not going to blame Adam and Eve, are we?
If one can use the argument ".... for the greater good" for the war in Iraq, it can also be used for the support of abortion. The population of the earth is increasing at an alarming rate and over- population is a contributing factor for wars, increased disease, crime, hunger etc.
Almost all abortions involve the destruction of an innocent potential sentient being. This is a primary argument against abortion. Yet, almost all opponents of abortion agree to certain exceptions, including rape and incest. I have to ask "In what ways and manner is the innocence of an embryo created via rape/incest less important than an embryo created by other means"? This point illustrates that social customs, and not morality, are the basis for a society's position regarding abortion.
Legalized abortion has devastating moral consequences. Teenage girls use abortion as a method of birth control. MILLIONS of babies are murdered every year for the cheap cause of teenage promiscuity. Every creature living is directly planned and created by God. Your argument about chance and genes is faithless.
ReplyDeletePsalm 139
1 To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. O LORD, thou hast searched me, and known me.
2 Thou knowest my downsitting and mine uprising, thou understandest my thought afar off.
3 Thou compassest my path and my lying down, and art acquainted with all my ways.
4 For there is not a word in my tongue, but, lo, O LORD, thou knowest it altogether.
5 Thou hast beset me behind and before, and laid thine hand upon me.
6 Such knowledge is too wonderful for me; it is high, I cannot attain unto it.
7 Whither shall I go from thy spirit? or whither shall I flee from thy presence?
8 If I ascend up into heaven, thou art there: if I make my bed in hell, behold, thou art there.
9 If I take the wings of the morning, and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea;
10 Even there shall thy hand lead me, and thy right hand shall hold me.
11 If I say, Surely the darkness shall cover me; even the night shall be light about me.
12 Yea, the darkness hideth not from thee; but the night shineth as the day: the darkness and the light are both alike to thee.
13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother's womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!
18 If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.
19 Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
20 For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
21 Do not I hate them, O LORD, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?
22 I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
23 Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts:
24 And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.
Why are some people born deformed? To humble the proud and arrogant who demand answers from a God Who is ineffably beyond their understanding.
Job 38
1 Then the LORD answered Job out of the whirlwind, and said,
2 Who is this that darkeneth counsel by words without knowledge?
3 Gird up now thy loins like a man; for I will demand of thee, and answer thou me...
